Independent Design Checking

CAT I Check (Standard)

All in‑house scaffold designs undergo a CAT I check as standard, providing clients with peace of mind that the design has been internally reviewed for accuracy, safety and compliance.

CAT II & CAT III Independent Checks

For CAT II or CAT III checks, we require the design brief (including any subsequent scope changes) along with the approval‑stage design drawings. To remain compliant with BS 5975-1-2024, we can assist in the creation of a brief with the required information for the checker if the initial design brief is unavailable.

An Altus Engineer will carry out an independent set of calculations based on the information provided, ensuring that the proposed design is structurally sound and fit for purpose.

Where required, a comment register will be issued to clearly communicate any amendments needed prior to the release of the final design check certificate.

CAT III Checks for Altus‑Prepared Designs

For CAT III checks on designs produced by Altus, we can arrange the check through an approved external partner. This removes a procurement burden from the Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) and ensures a smooth, compliant checking process.

TWC Support & Advisory

We provide guidance to Temporary Works Coordinators when defining the appropriate check category within a design brief, helping ensure compliance with BS 5975 and project‑specific requirements.

Design Optimisation / and Value Engineering

We offer independent reviews of design concepts and existing design packages to identify opportunities for cost or programme savings. This may include improved material efficiency, alternative construction methodologies, or streamlined sequencing to enhance overall project performance.
